For her commendable contribution in the field of campus journalism, Mrs. Antoniette D. Cortez of West Visayas State University (WVSU) – Integrated Laboratory School (ILS) was adjudged as Outstanding School Paper Adviser in the Elementary Level for School Year 2011-2012.
The award was given by the Department of Education (DepEd) in a ceremony held on April 10-11, 2012 at Puerto Princesa City, Region IV-B (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan (MIMAROPA)).
“In everything I do, I always give my best that’s why regret is not a part of my being. This award is an unexpected acknowledgment of my effort but it is also fleeting. What I treasure the most is the appreciation of my former pupils and students especially when they tell me that they have learned something from me and I’m part of their success,” said Mrs. Cortez.
Mrs. Cortez was one of the 17 Elementary Teachers Awardee who emerged victorious among the 51 nominees nationwide. She is the adviser of the Pen Blazers, the official student publication of the elementary department of the WVSU-ILS.
The criteria for the award Mrs. Cortez got were the following: scholarship and award as adviser, leadership, community service, and character.
“Ma’am Anne was more than just a teacher. She was my exclusive warden, a very forbidding one, who never failed to discipline me with all her might and teach me the difference between what is right and wrong,” said Mary Beatrice J. Bagaforo, editor in chief of Pen Blazers in School Year 2009-2010.
