WVSU staff, volunteer and nurses received certificates at Robinson's Place

 

The West Visayas State University Medical Center – Out-Patient Department joined Iloilo City’s first ever celebration of “Diabetes Awareness Week”, with a theme, “Diabetes Expose- Alamin Ang Bago At Totoo”. This activity was held last July 17- 24, 2011.

The event was organized by Diabetes Philippines– Western Visayas, headed by Dr. Francis Pasaporte, President, in cooperation with the Philippine Association of Diabetes Educators and Association of Diabetic Nurse Educators of the Philippines– Western Visayas Group (PADE/ ADNEP), with their president Shirley Tubongbanua, RND. This affair aimed to provide social interactions that will empower the Ilonggos to help manage and spread information about Diabetes.

Diabetic organizations from the different parts of Iloilo gathered at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol for a series of activities which included free A1C blood test, blood sugar and cholesterol screening, blood pressure- taking, ankle brachial index screening, medical consultation and lectures.

A poster- making contest was one of the highlights of the said event wherein it was participated by the different hospitals here in the city. Proudly, our very own WVSUMC- Out-Patient Department with the Head Nurse Carmela R. Querubin won the 1st and 2nd places respectively.

The celebration which aimed to unite doctors, nurses, nutritionists, dieticians and nurse educators who are involved in the care and management, as well as, to provide quality care and disseminate information on the services available for diabetic patients concluded satisfactorily. Indeed, we look forward to having more of these events
